What is special about the bridge design plan of Tran Hung Dao who won the first prize?

After more than 2 months of organizing the competition, Design Option 12 of Tran Hung Dao Bridge was voted and won the first prize of the Selection Council.

According to the plan, from March 1 to March 31, the city will hold an exhibition of 4 design options for the Tran Hung Dao bridge (option 12 and 3 other options) at the Exhibition House – 93 St. Dinh Tien Hoang (Trang Tien Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), for public opinion.

According to the design plan No. 12, the main bridge section has a length of 900 m, divided into 6 spans; each span is 150 m long. In addition to 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for mixed traffic, the bridge is designed with 2 more lanes for cyclists and sidewalks for people walking. The pedestrian section is designed with a “scene observatory”, with seats so that people can stop to relax, admire the view, take pictures …

The arch structure is two tangent curves repeating 6 spans with the symbol of infinity. Coming from the desire that the Tran Hung Dao bridge would not only serve traffic needs but also serve the purpose of “human life”, it was also the first bridge to cross the Red River which was proposed to have 2. bicycle lane and pedestrian sidewalk.

The design of more bicycle lanes and sidewalks is to meet the needs of tourism, walking, check-in, sightseeing of a part of the population. Mr. Hung said this will be the trend in the near future when the bridge is built and used because of the need of people for sightseeing, check-in is very clearly displayed at Nhat Tan Bridge and Bridge.Long Bien.

Additionally, if designing a bridge only to serve traffic requires only without aiming for landscape compatibility on both sides of the Red River, towards an urban bridge that connects traffic – people – landscape, the the bridge will not be worthy of its name and location.

“At the position of each foot of the bridge in design option No. 12, we designed an observatory. Here, people can stop to admire the view, check-in. Because this bridge does not follow the path. The description is realistic but evocative, so each observatory is designed to give people the feeling of standing on the bow of the boat, soaring to see the sights on both sides of the river “- Mr. Hung said.

According to the proposed plan, the traffic system is designed to connect in all directions but does not affect existing works at the bridge location. In addition, to deliver the potential of tourism development, on both sides of the bridge, paths will be arranged in accordance with the planning of future green parks; forming a place where cultural activities and community activities can be organized. The proposed cost estimate for the construction of the bridge is approximately VND 8,670 billion, which saves almost 3% of the cost compared to the total investment set by the design work (VND 8,958 billion).

In defining public consultation on options in the near future, Mr. Hung hopes that when more community and people -focused functions are added, option number 12 – Infinity Hanoi (Hanoi is not limited to) Will be accepted and supported by the people.

After more than 2 months of organizing the competition, the Examination Council announced 3 architectural plans that won the First, Second, and Third prizes and a selection plan (the design with the highest score in the previous season of choice). These 4 options will be displayed and consulted in the community from March 1 to March 31.
